Different situation entirely. Duchene isn't even the best player on this team. |

semantics. duchene also wasnt as young as kessel either (kessel wasnt going to be a ufa as soon as duchene), nor did the Leafs give up a quality player along with futures, but thats besides the point. there are alot of similarities though in terms of price paid and where the teams ended up after making the deals despite gms thinking they improved the team. reality is both teams need a rebuild and shouldn't have made those deals. |

The leafs also didn't have karlsson, stone , Chabot, or any other quality players while Kessel was there. This team needs a good retooling, not a complete rebuild. |

the old leafs way. i like it.
they didn't have a karlsson but they had jvr rielly kadri who are as good as stone and chabot. trades have some very similiar aspects not sure why its hard to see.

I forgot to mention Hoff as well. I see the similarities in the trade as it was picks and young players for both guys. Although I dont think we end up giving Colorado 2 players the quality of Seguin and Hamilton. We needed an upgrade at centre and we got that. If we're this bad next year than I will totally agree with you, but I don't think we will be. |

I'm going to throw something out there - wonder what Sens could do if Karlsson could be moved but also brought back next summer. Obviously you would need to make Tampa a pretty much cup favorite by a mile to get a solid package back as well. Here's what I'm thinking in mind:
To Tampa
Erik Karlsson
Zack Smith
Johnny Oduya
Goalie for Syracuse
To Ottawa
Ryan Callahan
Braydon Coburn
Nicklas Hjalmarsson
Mikhail Sergachev
Connor Ingram
2019 1st [top 15 protected] OR Cal Foote
To Arizona
Bobby Ryan [6.25m]
2018 1st
++
2018 - 2019 Season
Hoffman - Duchene - Stone
Zadina/Tkachuk - Brown - White
-----------------------------------------
Sergachev - Hjalmarsson
Chabot - Ceci
July 2019
Sign Erik Karlsson has UFA - 8 years $ 100m
2019 - 2020 Season
Hoffman - Duchene - Stone
Tkachuk - Brown - White
Chaplik - Pageau - Dzingel
Pyatt - Shore - xxx
Sergachev - Karlsson
Chabot - Hjalmarsson
Borowiecki - Harpur
Not to mention you have Brassard you could move in a trade. |

^^ I'm also in favor of moving Ceci. He would be solid in Tampa (or Arizona) - for some reason he doesn't play to his ability all the time in Ottawa, maybe the pressure of playing in his hometown and the criticism.
That said no way I give him up without the maximum return. |

Would you rent him to Toronto for their extra 4-6 games for Jvr and their first? as long as he comes back in the summer |

Sorry, but if they trade away Karlsson there's pretty much zero chance that he's coming back.
Personally, I think the most likely deal would be something like Brassard to PIT for a 1st Round Pick (2018) and prospect G Filip Gustavsson.

Now such a bad deal but I still don't think it happens. Sens need to dump salary, not just sell |

If Ottawa trades Karlsson, they can't sign him to an 8 year deal. Only 7.
